Covenant was founded in 1978. Our church first began meeting at Reid Chapel on the campus of Samford University. Bill Hay was the founding pastor and still serves as our pastor today. On March 4, 1979, Covenant was received into membership in the Evangel Presbytery of the PCA. In June of 1979 the members purchased nine acres of property on the corner of South Lakeshore Drive and Old Montgomery Highway. Services were first held at the new location in 1981. During the 1980s and early 1990s Covenant continued to experience tremendous growth and God graciously provided facilities to accommodate the growing number of people who came into our church family. On April 7, 1996, Covenant held its first service in our new worship center.
